In 2022, CIRDE had its first opportunity to engage with the Catholic National Youth Council upon an invitation by the National Youth Chaplain, Rev. Fr. Cosmas Mwova and give them an introduction to interreligious and ecumenical dialogue. Fascinated by the energy, enthusiasm and interest by the youth, CIRDE decided to continue working with them.
Based on the past experience, CIRDE invited the Catholic Youth from all Dioceses together with Muslim youth, as well as from other Christian denominations (a total of 63 youth) to a 3-day intense training in June 2023. Together, CIRDE and the youth explored the nexus of interreligious dialogue and environmental peacebuilding. The youth developed action plans and project proposals on such in their respective communities. CIRDE will continue to follow up and seek partners to our youth to protect our planet and engage in meaningful dialogue with other faiths and religions.
CIRDE is grateful for the facilitators of the Institute for Interreligious Dialogue & Islamic Studies (IRDIS) and of the Faith for Earth Initiative of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).
